Scotty's Story
Scott William Redfern was raised in Kingsburg, and through the ministry of First Baptist Church, grew in both wisdom and stature in the Lord. As a reader in his youth group, he often spent his free time working to restore the old youth barn that once stood on the site of the playground. Inspired by his hero, missionary Jim Elliot, Scott made a commitment to be willing to be “a tool for Christ”. With his own knowledge of tools in a master's Hand, Scott understood the magnitude of this commitment. On February 6, 1996, Scott went home to be with his Lord and Savior. Scott’s sudden death at 16 years of age left a lasting impact on the lives of his friends, his church family, and this community. It was decided to rename the old youth barn, Scotty's Place. Today, Scotty's place is dedicated to preserving the memory of this one young man whose life and death still speaks of our hope in Jesus Christ. Scott carried the following verse in his wallet: “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by his love; He will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
